Ghana has witnessed a steady rise in cases of chronic kidney disease (CKD), with many linked to:

Tarkwa, a mining-dominated municipality, has been particularly affected by environmental pollution leading to kidney-related health crises. Yet, the region currently lacks a dialysis center a critical gap this initiative seeks to address

Goals of this Conference

1. Promote awareness of the environmental and lifestyle causes of kidney disease in Ghana.
2. Raise funds to:
• Support the national kidney health advocacy campaign through GhanaWeb Health.
Establish the first dialysis center in Tarkwa, Western Region.
3. Foster collaboration between health, mining, and environmental sectors for integrated kidney health solutions.
4. Strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional hub for nephrology education and research.

Expected Outcome

• Heightened national awareness of kidney health risks from environmental exposure;
• Policy recommendations for integrating kidney health into environmental regulation;
• Driving initiatives toward the establishment of dialysis centers in underserved regions; and
• Establishment of a Kidney Health Fund for advocacy and dialysis center development
• Formation of a National Nephrology and Environmental Health Network (NNEHN)
